Rosie the Robot.

Rosie’s Story

Rosie came to my house in December of last year just before Christmas. She had her six nursing puppies in tow and was not a healthy mama. As I understand it, she and her babies had been found in an abandoned house. We have no way of knowing how they came to be in that house or how long they had been there. Given her health, I’d guess a while. She was painfully emaciated, she had a tape worm, roundworms, hookworms, and heartworms. Her hair was extremely course. She had large patches of skin irritation and missing hair. She smelled as bad as any dog I’ve had. Her teeth had suffered significant damage, likely an attempt to free herself from a confinement situation. Despite her condition and her clear suffering, her babies were overall healthy. She really gave everything she had to keep them alive and taken care of.

Since she’s been with me, her babies have all gone to their furever homes. She’s well on her way to a very healthy and happy dog. We’ve treated and cleared all of her intestinal worms. She’s currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be clear soon. After lots of baths and fish oil supplements, she doesn’t stink and her hair has come back soft and full. She’s put on 15 pounds and rounded out at a full 50 pounds. Her teeth will likely need some attention in the future, but they are not slowing her down one bit at the moment.

Rosie at home

Rosie is a doll. She wants nothing more than to be where the people are and a solid belly rub. When she sees me for the first time in the morning, she literally wraps her front paws around my leg and gives me a “hug”.  She is amazing on a leash. She loose leash walks at a variety of tempos with no issues. I suspect her previous people were joggers as she seems to be comfortable jaunting a little.  She’s an absolute chow hound and will sit beautifully for a treat. She has hound in her and talks a bit when she wants attention. Rosie is perfectly happy inside. She’s super laid back and doesn’t need a ton of exercise to keep her busy. She’d do well with a likeminded human. Because of her teeth, I only give her soft toys and chews. She seems to enjoy both. She also enjoys building little nests and will sometimes run off with the couch blanket or a bit of laundry to make her bed extra comfy.

She doesn’t particularly love the other dogs in my house. She’s coming around a bit and has decided she would rather tolerate them than be out of the room. If no one gets in her face or messes with her, she’s fine. She’s come to an understanding with one of my guys and they can be together because neither of them is interested in messing with the other. A multi-dog situation might work with the right dog and humans, but I think the in the end, Rosie will be happiest as the spoiled one and only.

Won’t you consider giving Rosie a loving home?

Rosie is a big dog in a small-ish dog package. She’s quite unique in stature and appearance. Her shedding is minimal. She’s already house trained, leash trained, basic manners trained, and she hugs! She’s ready for you!
